Missing out on life. Replacing Your Missing Teeth

Posted on: November 5th, 2018 by freshadmin No Comments

It is a fact of life, if we are missing teeth, we can miss out on life.  We can lose our confidence and become self-conscious, even around close friends and colleagues. It feels like a downward spiral. The Same Day Teeth Suite will create your new smile and restore not only your teeth but your self-esteem.  No longer will you want to hide but can once again be the centre of attention, ready to take on everything life has to offer. If you are missing teeth, either as a result of an accident or through ageing, there is light at the end of the tunnel. No longer do dentures, bridges and implants need to look, and feel, alien but are made specifically for you to look as natural as your original teeth, or even better.

The replacement of missing teeth consists of a variety of different techniques, including using dentures, bridges or implants, not only to improve your good looks but your overall dental health. If you have gaps between your teeth where you have lost one or more teeth, it may disturb the way the rest of your teeth come together and function. Eating may be awkward and uncomfortable; you can no longer bite into a crisp apple and you can no longer whistle a happy tune. The remaining teeth in the mouth may, over time, tilt or move into undesirable positions causing food to get trapped in the spaces, increasing your risk of decay, cavities and gum disease. If this isn’t depressing enough, if several of your teeth are missing, your facial muscles can become slack, prematurely ageing your appearance and possibly affecting your speech.

But, as you become the advanced generation, there is now an advanced generation of dentures, bridges and dental implants to compensate.  We no longer have to fear we are going to become the archetypal senior citizen with dentures in a glass by the bed. Modern treatment options have put an end to this image.

If you are considering replacing missing teeth, your treatment options include:

  • Dentures (false teeth) – removable frames, made of metal or plastic, that hold false teeth.
  • Bridges – false teeth that are secured to neighbouring natural teeth.
  • Dental implants – metal ‘pegs’ that are surgically fixed in your jawbone as a foundation for dentures, crowns or bridges which are clipped or screwed securely onto this structure.

Every patient is different and has a different set of needs. The most appropriate treatment for you will depend on the number of teeth you have missing, the position of the missing teeth and the condition of any remaining teeth.

Why not book a consultation at The Same Day Teeth Suite to see which option is most suitable for you. We offer a FREE consultation where you can discuss your options in full with one of our experienced dentists.

Worse Case Scenario, Happy Ending. Why Teeth Are Extracted

Posted on: October 17th, 2018 by freshadmin No Comments

“Oh, I lost a tooth, Whatever shall I do?”

You may remember the rhyme from the playground and some of you may remember the visits from the tooth fairy. We all go through the experience of losing milk teeth as children but as adults we hope to keep all our teeth for life.  A few people ignore their teeth until it is too late but others, unfortunately, despite regular visits to the dentists and taking good care of their teeth, may need a tooth extracted and although this is no fairytale, it can have a happy ending. Same Day Teeth Suite will minimise your loss and restore your smile in no time at all.

Losing a tooth, or teeth may seem like the worse case scenario and indeed dentists will do everything they can to save a tooth, but there is a variety of reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted;

  • An extensively decayed or damaged tooth may become infected. With root canal treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected before being filled or crowned.  It is important to treat an infected tooth as a matter of urgency to save the tooth and to prevent the spread of infection.  However, occasionally a tooth cannot be salvaged by root canal as treatment can be only be performed if the root canals are accessible and can be adequately cleaned and sealed and the tooth has sufficient bone support.  In cases where a tooth cannot be salvaged, it will have to be extracted.
  • Periodontal disease, commonly known as gum disease, infects the gum tissue and jaw bone and, if left untreated, results in loosening and eventual loss of teeth.
  • Some patients have crowded teeth that need straightening for both aesthetic reasons and to improve the bite. In some cases, braces will be effective in solving the problem but in the most severe cases extraction is required to align the teeth correctly.
  • Occasionally we see patients with extra teeth, known as supernumerary teeth. Not only can the extra teeth look unsightly, diminishing your smile but they can cause problems with your other teeth.
  • Medication, specifically immunosuppressive medications prescribed after an organ transplant, can increase the possibility of infections associated with the teeth.  Doctors may well recommend the removal of some teeth prior to surgery.

If extraction of a tooth can’t be avoided, do not fear an appointment with the dentist. What may sound like a worse case scenario will be the best thing you can do in the circumstances.  Whatever the reason for the extraction, your dentist will explain the procedure, discuss your fears and suppress any pain. Modern dentists have lots of ways of seeing you do not suffer at all. In no time, the problem will be solved and you can begin planning restorative treatment, fixing your smile. Crowns, dental implants and bridges are made and fitted to replace your lost tooth as naturally as if they are your own.

If you know, or fear, you may need a tooth extracted, call Same Day Teeth Suite to make an appointment.

Boost Your Confidence With New Front Teeth

Losing teeth can be a knock to your self-confidence especially as you get older. At the Same Day Teeth Suite, we’ve got plenty of experience in dealing with patients who want to see their smiles transformed.

In truth, most people don’t look forward to their visit to the dentist – it seems the natural state for a large number of us. Fortunately, we pride ourselves in putting all our patients at complete ease. Such was the case with one particular patient who admitted to a few jitters when he attended the clinic:

“I was apprehensive. I wasn’t quite sure what would be entailed but things worked out as well as I could have expected.”

Our first step in any treatment or appointment is to make sure the patient is relaxed and realises they are in a secure environment with qualified professionals who know what they are doing. That comes not just from our clinicians but also the nurses and support staff on site. Much of the problem with any dental procedure including extraction and putting in implants is the fear that it will hurt. With the latest techniques we can assure patients that they won’t be put in the position where they are suffering – and at the end of it all they will have a smile they can show the world. This particular patient was to have one tooth removed and two implants installed to his lower teeth.

It’s a relatively simple procedure nowadays and one that can be done quickly and without the long period of discomfort that used to be characteristic of days gone by. Most of this comes from the preplanning stage where our clinicians produce a 3D guide that allows us to place and create your implants accurately.

For single tooth replacements there are a number of options available:

  • A crown that acts as a cap over your existing tooth and can protect it from further wear
  • A single bridge that can fill the gap between a number of missing teeth
  • Single implants made of titanium onto which the new tooth is then attached

For our patient, the option was to have single implants and he was pleasantly surprised with how smoothly everything went:

“I’ve certainly had no problems at all and everything’s gone to plan. Everything’s gone on time and I am very happy with the result. I had a tooth removed, two implants and my front teeth, my lower front teeth now are very much like they were before, even maybe looking better.”

Even though he was a little apprehensive at first, like many other patients, he was very pleased with the result and can now enjoy smiling again without people noticing a gap or a fake tooth.

At the Same Day Teeth Suite, we know how important your smile is. We meet a lot of people who have been initially nervous about visiting the dentist, especially those in their 50s who perhaps think there is no point in having treatment. It’s surprising how something like a dental implant can transform someone’s self-confidence and give them a new lease of life.

How to Find in Nottingham the Right Fit for your Dentures

Posted on: October 13th, 2015 by freshadmin No Comments

At the SameDay Teeth Suite in Nottingham we see patients who need dentures and one of the first things they worry about is how well their new teeth will actually fit. It used to be, dentures were often loose and caused problems, especially when it came to eating.

With advances in modern technology we can now provide patients with a far more comfortable experience, including a more realistic smile as well as a long lasting solution to their dental problems.

One of the key factors in getting a good fit for dentures is to take a highly accurate impression. At the SameDay Teeth Suite we use silicon, which allows us to develop dentures with a much closer fit. Another thing that can affect how well a denture performs and the level of comfort is the state of the jaw line, and whether there has been any deterioration in the bone as a result of conditions such as gum disease.

The Problem with Normal Dentures

Traditional dentures are made from a standard impression and often don’t take the bite of the patient into account, something that can affect the fit over time. For quality dentures taking a primary impression is only the start of the process; we also measure things like your bite and monitor how the jawbone moves when eating.

Most people don’t know that dentures can be produced in various styles to suit both younger and more mature people, so that the teeth look perfectly natural for their age and appearance. We use injection-moulded acrylic material, which provides a much better fit and much more stable dentures.

High Quality Dentures

To help make sure dentures fit more securely we often like to include two or more implants to which the denture can be fitted, which provide a more solid platform, though this is not always possible with all clients. This is much more important for the lower denture and maintains a better fit and, more importantly, ensures comfort for the patient.

With normal full dentures, over time the lower set creates a flat ridge that makes it difficult for them remain stable. New Swiss Dentures that fit to the lower jaw allow for a more functional set of false teeth, which work better and give their owners more confidence, even if there is some problem with the underlying bone that prevents implants. This is important if you want your confidence back.

High quality dentures also last much longer, although of course this depends on the state of your jaw and whether there is any deterioration in the bone. At the SameDay Teeth Suite in Nottingham we’ve seen many patients opt for designs such as Swiss Dentures, which have literally transformed their lives. The process is carried out by our trained dental professionals, whose job is to put you at ease. The process involves assessing your teeth, jaw and bite as well as matching your new teeth to your age and physical complexion.

If you want a smile that is made to last, then book your visit today and see how we can help you.
